Journey to Wholeness
Each lifetime we live is a journey along the path set before us from our beginning. It is a path to wholeness. I think this begs the question “Weren’t we whole to begin with?” It is a very reasonable question. Being made in the image of our creator, the Godhead, we are spirit beings and perfect as our creator is perfect, but does that mean we’re also whole? No. I don’t think so. How can one be whole without first knowing brokenness? This begs another question. “What is wholeness and how do we get there?
To me wholeness is being in complete union with yourself, the Godhead and everything the Godhead created. Wholeness is being healthy in body, mind and spirit. I asked a couple people what their idea of wholeness is. One answer was that being whole means being content and at peace with your life. Another person I asked said that wholeness was not having any empty spaces in your soul. I think those are good thoughts and wanted to add them. This is our journeys goal and will certainly take more than one lifetime to achieve.
Fortunately there is no time frame associated with our individual journey’s. It could take two, twenty or hundreds of lifetimes. We have a great deal to learn. With every lifetime we are learning lessons, clearing up and creating new karma and new lessons to be worked out. Our ability to choose is also a factor. We come to a lifetime with a plan in place but once here we can work the plan or not. We can wake up or not. I know a man that came to this lifetime to be a lawyer and help people. His life is very far from that. But, it is his choice and his karma. We can’t judge the path someone else travels.
This leads to the second half of the question. “How do we get to that place of wholeness?” We have to learn the lessons! It will not be easy but it is necessary. We can’t go through life hoping for smooth sailing. It is the rough spots that teach us. We need to be aware of situations that are learning moments and accept the change that is needed in the way we think.
There are many wonderful self help/personal growth teachers publishing books that teach some version of “Change Your Thoughts and Change Your Life” While I agree; Attitude is everything. If you change your thought pattern from negative to positive, good changes will happen in your life. But I think it is more than that…there is a step beyond that statement which must be taken in order to reach a place of wholeness.
Learning the lessons we need to learn, if truly learned, will change the way we think. We will no longer judge, criticize and hate. It will change the way we see. We will learn to see good in everything and everyone. It will change the way we act. Lessons truly learned will lift us up and take us to a place of absolute love. Absolute peace. We will be in union with all that is, we will be in a place of…
